Terrorists Retreat in Confusion as Military Repels Multiple Infiltration Attempts
MAIDUGURI — Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, in the early hours of Friday, repelled an attempted infiltration by Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists into three communities near Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The acting Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Muhammad Goni, said in a statement that the affected communities were Muna Garage, Shuwari Village and the Ajilari Cross area.
Ajilari Cross is located in the southern part of Maiduguri metropolis, about 6–8km from the city centre. Muna Garage is on the western outskirts of Maiduguri, along the road to Dikwa/Gamboru, roughly 8–10km from the city centre, and is one of the major motor parks in that area. Shuwari Village is also on the western edge of Maiduguri, close to Muna Garage, about 9–12km from the city centre, just outside the main built-up area.
The statement read: “Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, have successfully thwarted multiple coordinated infiltration attempts by ISWAP terrorists across Borno State in the early hours of 10 July 2026.”
Goni disclosed that between 12:20 am and 2:30 am, the terrorists attempted to infiltrate Muna Garage, Shuwari Village and the Ajilari Cross axis to gain access to the metropolis.
“With early warning mechanisms emplaced, troops swiftly detected the advancing terrorists and engaged them from multiple axes with accurate firepower, decisively frustrating all attempts to infiltrate,” Goni added.
In two separate incidents, troops also successfully thwarted additional infiltration attempts by the terrorists at Miringa and Dutsen Kura in Buratai.
“During the pursuit of the fleeing terrorists at Miringa, a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle triggered an Improvised Explosive Device with no casualties recorded on troops. The situation remains stable,” Goni said.
Overwhelmed by the troops’ swift tactical manoeuvre, the terrorists were forced to abandon their mission and retreat in confusion across all axes.
“Troops are currently conducting clearance and exploitation operations to pursue the fleeing terrorists, consolidate operational gains, dominate the area, and prevent any further threat to nearby communities,” he added.
According to a statement issued by Goni on Thursday, several suspected ISWAP terrorists were killed and a soldier lost his life during a failed attack on a military base in Borno State. The insurgents had attempted to overrun the Forward Operating Base Logomani in Ngala Local Government Area on Tuesday but met fierce resistance from troops, forcing their surviving members to flee.
