Pete Edochie Recalls Emotional Encounter With Late Olu Jacobs: ‘Our Mates Are Gone’ Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has opened up about his close relationship with the late legendary actor Olu Jacobs, recalling an emotional encounter between the two friends and industry contemporaries. Edochie said Jacobs was the only person in the Nigerian film industry he regarded as his senior, describing their relationship as one that could only truly be understood when the two were together. He recalled that during their last meeting, the two actors unexpectedly crossed paths at the centre of a road after coming from different film locations. According to Edochie, Jacobs looked at him and said, “Pete, our mates are gone.” The statement reportedly moved both men to tears as they embraced. Edochie explained that Jacobs was reflecting on the death of several of their contemporaries, including Sam Loco Efe, Justice Esiri, Pete Eneh and Enebeli Elebuwa. The veteran actor said the moment came from Jacobs’ heart, prompting him to pray that God would preserve them so they could continue to represent those who had passed on. He quoted himself as telling Jacobs: “Olu, well, may the good Lord keep us, so we can represent those who are gone until He thinks it’s time to go.” The recollection highlights the long-standing bond between two of Nollywood’s most respected veterans and the generation of actors whose careers helped shape Nigeria’s film industry
