Kadri Hamzat, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, has praised the peaceful and orderly conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election across the state, describing it as a strong reflection of the party’s commitment to internal democracy.
Hamzat, who emerged as the APC’s consensus candidate for the governorship race, said the impressive turnout of supporters and the calm atmosphere during the exercise signaled a positive future for democratic participation within the party.
He also urged individuals who may be considering actions capable of disrupting the 2027 general elections to recognise that elections should be driven by ideas and development-focused policies, not violence or hostility.

According to him, democratic contests are meant to provide solutions and pathways for societal progress rather than serve as battlegrounds. He stressed that political leaders should focus on initiatives that improve the lives of citizens and advance the development of the state.
The deputy governor further reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to issue-based campaigns, noting that the party would prioritise programmes, policies, and manifestos aimed at convincing voters instead of resorting to violence or intimidation.
Meanwhile, support for Hamzat’s governorship ambition has continued to gain momentum within the Lagos APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
President Bola Tinubu officially endorsed Hamzat following a meeting with the Lagos APC Governance Advisory Council (GAC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, describing him as the party’s consensus candidate.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had earlier thrown his weight behind his deputy, praising Hamzat’s competence, experience, and capacity to effectively lead Lagos State.
The GAC, under the leadership of Tajudeen Olusi, also unanimously adopted Hamzat as its preferred aspirant through a consensus arrangement.
Former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode later joined other party leaders in endorsing Hamzat, commending his commitment to consultations and party unity.
Hamzat’s growing political support has also been strengthened through engagements with other governorship aspirants, including Samuel Ajose and former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate Abdul-Azeez Adediran, widely known as Jandor.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Lagos State governorship election for February 6, 2026.
