The Anambra State Police Command has secured the remand of a couple – Chukwudi Chukwuyere, 40, and Mrs Chisom Chukwuyere, 30 – in a correctional centre over their alleged involvement in the abuse of a 10-year-old boy under their care.
The boy, identified as Chiziterem, was seen in a viral video with a scalded body showing injuries on all parts. The incident occurred in Awada, Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
Police spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga said the suspects were arraigned following the conclusion of preliminary investigations. The victim is currently receiving medical treatment under state protection.
Anambra State First Lady Nonye Soludo visited the boy at the hospital and expressed satisfaction with his steady improvement, commending the medical team caring for him.
The case attracted public concern, prompting state government intervention. Soludo described the boy’s recovery as a testament to the dedication of the medical team and the outpouring of support from kind-hearted individuals.
