ABUJA — The controversy surrounding the alleged fraudulent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) intensified as prominent Nigerians and opposition parties demanded a thorough investigation.
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), and civil society organizations called for an independent probe into how an agency the Presidency claims never existed secured a N24 billion budget allocation, opened accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria, and obtained official recognition from multiple government institutions.
SGF’s Office Processed PFIPC Requests
Official documents obtained revealed that the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation formally received and forwarded Adeyemi’s request for office accommodation to the EFCC in November 2024—contradicting the Presidency’s claim that the agency never existed.
FG Lists Gbajabiamila as Witness
The Federal Government listed Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila and 10 others as witnesses in the criminal case against Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, who faces eight counts including conspiracy, forgery, and impersonation.
How Adeyemi Allegedly Operated
Police investigations alleged Adeyemi forged presidential appointment letters, operated 34 bank accounts, held meetings with foreign diplomats, requested visa facilitation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and secured recruitment approval for over 300 civil servants.
Government Says System Detected Fraud
The Presidency insisted that internal mechanisms flagged the scheme, with Temitope Ajayi vowing that collaborators within government would be prosecuted. However, a visit to the Federal Secretariat found no trace of the PFIPC office.
Opposition, CSOs Demand Gbajabiamila’s Removal
The ADC, NDC, and CSOs called for Gbajabiamila’s immediate removal to allow for an impartial investigation. The NDC cited allegations that he demanded 48% of the agency’s N27 billion take-off grant. A coalition threatened a protest at the Presidential Villa if no action was taken within seven days.
Civil Servants Posted to PFIPC Received No Work
Three senior civil servants deployed to the agency on August 28, 2025, revealed they were given office space but never assigned any tasks. All three said they had never heard of the agency before their posting.
