JOS — A farmer has been killed in a fresh attack by suspected gunmen in Butura Gida village, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the attack occurred at about 7:47 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8. Troops of Sector 5 of Operation Enduring Peace rushed to the community after receiving a distress call but found the attackers had fled. Troops found the lifeless body of the farmer but were unable to trace the assailants. A manhunt has been launched.
The killing came less than 24 hours after a 13-year-old herder, Mustapha Abdul Kadir, was found dead alongside four cattle in Mangu Local Government Area. Authorities suspect armed militia carried out the attack. Earlier the same day, two residents were killed in Torok community, Riyom Local Government Area, in an attack blamed on suspected Fulani bandits. The series of attacks has raised fresh concerns over the worsening security situation in Plateau State, where repeated clashes and reprisal attacks between farming and herding communities continue to claim lives.
