Eintracht Frankfurt Sign Raphael Onyedika, 34 Years After Landing Jay-Jay Okocha

German Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt have confirmed the signing of Nigeria international Raphael Onyedika on a contract until June 30, 2031, ending his four-year association with Belgian Pro League team Club Brugge.

The move marks the first time since 1992 that Eintracht Frankfurt have signed a Nigerian midfielder, following in the footsteps of club legend Austin Jay-Jay Okocha.

Okocha’s Legacy

Okocha captivated fans in the early 1990s with his dazzling skill and flair. His unforgettable solo goal against Karlsruher goalkeeper Oliver Kahn, voted Goal of the Year in 1993, remains one of the most iconic moments in the club’s history. During his time at Eintracht Frankfurt, the gifted playmaker made 116 appearances, scored 25 goals and produced 18 assists.

Onyedika’s Career

A product of FC Ebedei, Onyedika joined Club Brugge from Midtjylland in 2022 and went on to make 183 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing six assists. During his spell, he won two Belgian league titles, the Belgian Cup and the Supercup.

The midfielder has earned 26 caps for Nigeria, scoring three goals.

Onyedika has been allocated the number 25 jersey at Eintracht Frankfurt.
