The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, on Thursday defended Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Igboho over his actions to free Yorubaland from banditry and terrorism.
In a statement by National Publicity Secretary Jare Ajayi, Afenifere said Igboho was not threatening any particular ethnic group “but individuals and groups who engage in terror acts in Yorubaland.”
The group stressed that there was nothing wrong with Igboho’s position in protecting his people. This followed Igboho’s two-hour ultimatum to kidnappers in Oorelope Local Government Area.
The Concerned Fulani People of Nigeria had called on President Tinubu and Governor Makinde to caution Igboho. Northern groups including Arewa Consultative Forum condemned him.
Afenifere maintained that Yorubaland is safe for people of northern extraction and blamed unscrupulous herders for farm encroachment. The group also commended Tinubu for sending the state police bill to the National Assembly.
