The newly deployed Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Aminu Idris, has officially settled into his role in Benue State, stepping into office in the state capital, Makurdi, with a strong message centered on trust, access, and transparency ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking with journalists shortly after assuming duty, Idris made it clear that the commission is focusing on one major goal: making sure every eligible voter has a fair chance to participate in the electoral process. He also stressed that INEC intends to run operations that reflect the highest level of integrity, especially as preparations for 2027 gradually build up.

He didn’t miss the role of the media either. According to him, journalists remain a key link between the commission and the public, helping to ensure that citizens across Nigeria are well-informed about voter registration updates, election timelines, and other important developments.
One of the key updates he highlighted was the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which is currently in its third and final phase. He urged residents across Benue State to take advantage of the remaining window before the deadline closes, warning that missing it could mean waiting until the next cycle.
Idris also provided an update on the restoration of some State Constituencies, noting that progress has already been made in four out of five affected local government areas. He described the process as largely on track and nearing completion.
Wrapping up his remarks, the REC reassured residents that the commission remains committed to conducting all electoral activities with fairness, professionalism, and full transparency—setting the tone for what he described as a credible and inclusive electoral process going forward.
