Nigerian gospel singer Joshua Mike-Bamiloye, also known as Jaymikee, has responded to claims that Mount Zion Faith Ministries portrays Yoruba culture and spirituality in a negative light.
The debate began after the ministry announced that Agbara Nla would return to cinemas on October 1, 2026. An X user accused Mount Zion of portraying Yoruba spirituality as evil while presenting Christianity as superior.
Joshua rejected the criticism, saying Mount Zion celebrates Yoruba language, proverbs, colours, traditions and royal heritage. He cited the character Abejoye as an example, noting he retained his Yoruba identity after becoming a Christian.
“The Gospel just took the throne in his heart,” Joshua wrote. He said less than 30 per cent of the ministry’s over 200 films focus on traditional settings, urging viewers to watch complete movies before forming conclusions.
