The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has issued a warning that fully tinted vehicles will not be allowed to operate in Nigeria as part of renewed efforts to strengthen national security and curb criminal activities.
Disu gave the warning while receiving a delegation of the Nigerian Bar Association led by its President, Afam Osigwe, during a courtesy visit. He said intelligence reports have linked several major crimes to vehicles with fully blacked-out windows.
“The law allows tinted glass on vehicles for medical reasons, factory-fitted specifications or security reasons. Even at that, the vehicles are not fully tinted as some motorists do in Nigeria,” he said.
He stressed that vehicles with completely blacked-out windows would no longer be permitted, warning that enforcement measures including impoundment would be strictly applied. He also warned against defaced or concealed number plates.
